Our friends at Nalgene approached us with a unique challenge: design and develop a product line extension that would push Nalgene into new occasions but fit seamlessly within the strong heritage of the brand. Beyond that, the canvas was blank.
Our research and industrial design teams hit the ground running, exploring a range of product possibilities and sketched concepts, highlighting functional design features built upon Nalgene’s bold and stylish design language. Out of this process emerged a clear choice: a new lunch box, as durable, stylish and intuitive as their iconic drinking bottles.
Working closely with the team at Nalgene, our design team brought the selected direction to the next level—building a 3D model, prototyping, and adding graphics. Through our design exploration, a distinct character and personality began to emerge, taking the shape of Lunch Box Buddy. Buddy became the representation of the product’s core function and features—reliable, playful, adaptable—a parent’s helper and a child’s companion.
We capped off the project with a series of animated videos, introducing “Lunch Box Buddy” and highlighting the consumer benefits in a fun and memorable way.
